Labour market intelligence for the Qualifications Strategy in translation and interpreting

This research was conducted to underpin the development of a qualification strategy for interpreting and translating. It included extensive desk research on the changing nature of the sector and skills demand and supply. A focus group was held in each of the four countries of the UK with data analysed using Atlas\ti, on-line survey of sector organisations was undertaken and supplementary evidence was gathered through a survey of sector experts. Design Spend in Firms

This research was a contribution towards the development of the Design Scoreboard and sought to assess the amount firms spend on design and investigate any relationships between this and factors such as the size of the business, industry and business performance. This challenging and innovative piece of work included development and initial testing of a research instrument and initial analyses of the results, including correlation and multivariate analysis using SPSS. The telephone survey was undertaken by colleagues at QA Research.

Qualifications Strategy for Business Enterprise and Business Support

August 2007 – April 2008    Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI)

Stratagia led the research to support the development of SFEDI’s qualification strategy. Extensive secondary research included analyses of the Labour Force Survey. Data was also analysed from a telephone survey of 2,600 small businesses undertaken by Vector Research (http://www.vector-research.net/ ). The Wood Holmes Group (http://www.woodholmes.co.uk/ ) facilitated focus groups in each country of the UK and Stratagia provided an on-line survey and telephone interviews with business support organisations. Following completion of the research Stratagia also led the development of the subsequent strategy and associated Action Plans.
