Credit & Qualifications
Main areas of work include:
- workshops and one-to-one advice and guidance in all aspects of qualification development, whether from National Occupational Standards or to accredit existing employer and other training programmes
- developing qualification frameworks
- quality assuring units of assessment, qualifications, assessment guidance and other products to ensure they meet regulatory and good practice requirements
- research and development linked to the strategic implications and use of credit accumulation and transfer
- evaluating policies and initiatives in relation to national standards and qualifications
A substantial amount of this work was undertaken to support the creation and delivery of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) in England. Whilst the QCF is no more, the expertise and resources we’ve developed are still relevant, especially for those looking for innovative and flexible approaches to recognising achievement in learning.

Research and Content Development for the ‘Build a Better Business’ E-learning Programme
Walsall College/ asfi, 2014-2015. ‘Build a Better Business’ is an enterprise e-learning programme and associated qualifications, initially targeted at recent start-up businesses in the Black Country. Extensive desk research was undertaken to inform the development of the nine modules that made up the programme, including procuring relevant You Tube and similar videos and links to additional learning resources. The programme looked to facilitate bite-size learning for small business owners. Formative and summative assessments were based on naturally occurring evidence drawn from activities in which learning was applied to the participants’ own business. Other products from the project were an on-line learner feedback questionnaire, qualifications at level 2 and 3 and constituent units and an assessor’s guide that included a marking scheme for the assessed activities and assignments.
