New QCF unit review

Monday, April 11th, 2011

Stratagia has just completed another project for Ofqual to review 750 units submitted to the QCF during the past year. Subject to agreement from Ofqual, results will be posted here shortly.

Building upon our past experience in similar projects, we were able to improve the efficiency, reliability and effectiveness of the process by using a new web-based review tool developed for the purpose. The tool provided a split screen, showing the full unit content and the review questionnaire. The results were then available for internal and external quality assurance and feedback to the reviewer if necessary. We’ll be making a version of this tool available to Awarding Organisations and other submitting bodies shortly.

But the most beneficial part of the exercise was increasing our understanding of those aspects of unit development that are causing most problems for submitting organisations and the ways in which they can be addressed. All of this will inform the next series of workshops that will take place in May and June.

Career Development Standards and Job Profiles

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Stratagia worked with Lifelong Learning UK to produce new National Occupational Standards and example job profiles for individuals working within all-age advice and guidance throughout the UK. The aim of this work was to develop fit-for-purpose NOS for the sector to enhance and support the skills of the advice and guidance workforce.

In order to inform this work, we consulted with the career guidance sector by:

  • participating in Steering and Working Groups
  • facilitating nation-wide focus groups
  • collecting job descriptions and person specifications
  • providing an online, interactive facility for completion of a questionnaire and feedback on specific draft NOS

Further information and products of this work can be found at:

Qualifications Strategy for Business Enterprise and Business Support

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

August 2007 – April 2008    Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI)

Stratagia led the research to support the development of SFEDI’s qualification strategy. Extensive secondary research included analyses of the Labour Force Survey. Data was also analysed from a telephone survey of 2,600 small businesses undertaken by Vector Research (http://www.vector-research.net/ ). The Wood Holmes Group (http://www.woodholmes.co.uk/ ) facilitated focus groups in each country of the UK and Stratagia provided an on-line survey and telephone interviews with business support organisations. Following completion of the research Stratagia also led the development of the subsequent strategy and associated Action Plans. Reports on this work can be found at http://www.sfedi.co.uk/standards-setting-body/sfedi-research/reports .
