Society, Health & Development Diploma Resources Evaluation Project

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

January – March 2009          Qualifications & Curriculum Authority

New resources had been developed to help teachers deliver the new Society, Health & Development 14-19 Diploma; our task was to evaluate the process used for procuring and delivering these resources. The work included a review of the extensive background materials, interviews with Sector Skills Council representatives, Awarding Bodies and resource authors and facilitation of discussions at a launch event. A topic guide was developed for the interviews and adapted for each audience. An evaluative framework was also created to collate and compare the data gathered from which we were able to produce coherent and well-evidenced findings and recommendations.

January 2008 – August 2008          Qualifications and Curriculum Authority

A pilot system was put in place during 2008 as part of the Sector Qualifications Reform Programme to provide Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) with a greater and more proactive role in vocational qualification development.

The research for this evaluation of the system included sixty-five individual face-to-face and telephone interviews with SSCs, Awarding Bodies, qualification regulators and other stakeholder, an on-line questionnaire and facilitating three consultation events attended by well over a hundred people.
