Winter programme of workshops

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Help with unit and qualifications development

Following the success of workshops recently delivered by Stratagia, we have arranged a winter programme covering a wide range of aspects of unit and qualifications development. Each workshop has a different focus, so you can select one or more to suit your needs.

There is a workshop to help those who:

  • are new to QCF development and want to get started
  • have experience but want to improve your practice in unit writing or qualifications development
  • ensure that your units and qualifications are compliant with the Regulators
  • want to compare your efforts with peers from other organisations involved in unit and qualifications development
  • would like to know how to design and tailor Rules of Combination (RoC) to suit your situation
  • are interested in understanding how grading may be applied to qualifications within the QCF
  • want to understand how different forms of assessment may be applied within the QCF to suit different learners

We recently ran a series of workshops and these are just some of the comments of people who took part:

“… very clear, concise and delivered at an appropriate pace.

“(I got) a much better understanding of unit writing issues and what areas to concentrate on when writing units. Also reconfirmation of where to find guidance/regs and how to interpret them.”

“A better detailed understanding of unit writing and interpretation.”

“Thanks to both facilitators for a very informative day.”

“I thought it was excellent and covered areas that were applicable to all.”

“Very good trainers, both were helpful and informative.”

The programme will begin in December and continues until February. After the workshop, we will provide you with free consultancy so that you get feedback on any aspect of QCF development, for example, we will review draft unit or Rules of Combination. The numbers for each workshop are limited so please book now to to avoid any disappointment. Click here for further details and how to book places on the Winter programme of workshops.

The results are in: our FAB Conference mini-survey

Monday, December 13th, 2010

We would like to thank everyone who visited our exhibition stand at the FAB conference. During the conference, we ran a survey asking attendees from Awarding Organisations (AOs) about the challenges they faced with QCF qualification development right now, and we especially thank the 36 people who took the time to participate in our survey. We’ve analysed the results, and will publish a short report early in the new year, but we can share some of the highlights now.

  1. The most pressing policy issue identified by respondents was funding of qualifications. With increased competition between AOs and a recent change of Government, a lot of people expressed concern over their market position and the impact of changes to the existing funding regimes.
  2. In terms of QCF-specific challenges, respondents raised two main problems: first, dealing with equivalence across qualifications, and second writing higher-level units (that is to say, units at level 4 or above).
  3. Lastly, a large proportion of participants identified IT process and system challenges: either internal IT systems to support their accreditation process, or interfacing with the IT systems of other organisations. Indeed, improving internal IT systems was ranked mostly highly as an area in which there is scope for improving technical skills.

We look forward to publishing our full findings early next year; if you’d like a copy of the report sent directly to you then please let us know, or of course subscribe to our website’s RSS feed or follow us on twitter to get notified of updates!

QCF Excellence Workshops

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Did you know that fewer than 10% of QCF units were found to be fully compliant with regulatory requirements in a recent Ofqual review?

To help get it right first time and avoid the costs of revising units, we’re organising a series of QCF Excellence workshops. If you already have experience of unit and qualification development then these practical, in-depth, small group sessions with post-workshop support are for you.

Let us know if there are particular issues you would like to see covered and we’ll make sure they form part of the programme.

Book now to qualify for the early bird discount.
